The Encounters and Priceless Relationships with Others

By Shiori Kimura (Member of “Angels” of English-Speaking Group)

Most important thing that I learnt through this WYD is the encounter with others. First encounter, we met a group from Lebanon at the airport in Frankfurt. Overcoming 12 hours of delay during their trip, they told me, “Whatever difficulty you encountered in your daily life, if you are determined to stay in peace and in love, those hardships will not affect you so much.”

Second encounter, I experienced the feeling of “home stay” for the first time. The two families, one in Kielce and the other in Krakow, opened their hearts and homes to welcome us, just as what was said in the words given to us during the first mass, “welcome your friends at your home with open hearts.”

Above all else, getting to know the members of the Japanese Pilgrimage Group, with whom I shared experiences throughout WYD time, and the local volunteer staff is an invaluable treasure for me. Each one’s actions were examples for me to follow. Those who actively shared their talents, such as language skills, in order to make the occasions grace filled; priests and sisters who followed us with heartfelt advice while we struggled to prepare presentations for the Catechesis; members of the sub- group who willingly gathered information and once in a while told jokes to make everyone laugh during the hard daily pilgrimage walks.... I can’t even start to count. I am so happy, looking forward to journeying together with these wonderful companions in faith.

Thank you so much for the opportunity to have this precious experience. With a grateful heart each day, I will make use of this experience in my activities in the Church.
