Each of us feels attracted by words and at the same time feels the need to love the Lord in a very personal way.

I remember when I was a boy, as a family we would go to Mass on a Sunday with our parents. I still remember my Mother staying on quietly in the chapel and making her own prayer of thanksgiving. I would wait outside until she finished. I never knew what she was saying to the Lord until many years later, when was already a priest. At this stage she was bed-ridden at home and when I was back in Dublin from Japan I would say a Mass for her in her bedroom. Always after receiving Communion, she would pray quietly to herself. I never knew what she was saying until a few weeks before she died. I was saying Mass for her and gave her communion. The suddenly I could actually hear what she was quietly saying to the Lord. It was her own private prayer. I wrote it down at once.

“My Lord and My God, I believe in You.

My Lord and My God, I hope in You.

My Lord and My God, I love You.

My Lord and My God, I thank You”
