Three years ago, the Dicastery for Laity, Family, and Life published “Catechumenal Itineraries for Married Life,” which outlines three stages of Catholic marriage formation: the initial "proximate preparation," a phase during the final months before the wedding, and a support phase for the first 2-3 years of marriage. This last stage emphasizes the importance of building a community with other Catholic couples to strengthen their journey. The Holy Spirit appears to be guiding new initiatives within St. Ignatius Church in this regard. Nearly two years ago, former leaders of the St. Ignatius International Youth Ministry (SIIYM) established a "Young Couples Group." As May and June are popular months for weddings, the Bulletin decided to invite several couples to share their experiences.
Jong & Elaine
Filipino couple) Joining the St. Ignatius Couple's Group has been a blessing for our family. We've found an extended family that shares the highs and lows of married life, learning from one another while reflecting on God's word. This supportive community inspires us to stay hopeful and faithful to God amid life's challenges. We especially appreciate the sense of belonging it offers, particularly as a family with a special needs child. We're grateful for its inclusive nature.
JM & Eunice
(Filipino couple) Our experience in the Couples' Group has been meaningful and encouraging. It’s refreshing to grow in faith together, especially as we build our family. Transitioning from Youth Ministry has been a beautiful journey. Being among couples who share similar values has strengthened our relationship and reminded us of our mission as a God-centered family. This community has inspired us to take the next step in our faith by receiving the Sacrament of Marriage after 3 years of being civilly married.
Miguel & Bjger
(Filipino-Vietnamese couple) Joining the St. Ignatius Young Couples Group has greatly enriched our family's experience. Rooted in faith, this community serves as a guiding light on our journey as a married couple and parents. Our regular gatherings provide spiritual insights that strengthen our bond and help us face challenges with compassion. The sense of belonging we find here is invaluable. Sharing our joys and struggles with other couples deepens our faith and encourages family growth. Additionally, our child enjoys interacting with other families, instilling important values of friendship and respect. Observing others practice their faith motivates us to create a home centered on love and Christian values. Ultimately, the St. Ignatius Young Couples Group reminds us that we are not alone. It offers guidance and support, helping us build a stronger, faith-filled family life.
Dang & Oanh
(Vietnamese couple) After over a year in the Couples Group, we are truly grateful for the blessings it has brought to our family. This supportive space enhances both our spiritual and family life, especially after the birth of our daughter, Anna. We value the group sharing sessions, which allow families to discuss their challenges and joys. These conversations help us reflect on our experiences and improve communication at home. Watching Anna play joyfully with the other kids has been a highlight for us, connecting our families and fostering a nurturing, faith-filled environment. We are thankful to God and to Ms. Adefa Armentia and Ms. Anabelle de los Reyes (TA), and Sr. Flor Florece, F.I, for their guidance, as well as to all the families.
Royston & Kotoe
(Indian-Japanese couple) Since our wedding day, our Couples Group has warmly welcomed us, creating a strong foundation for our married life. Sharing our daily experiences has fostered understanding and appreciation of each other’s challenges. This communication has been crucial as we prepare for the arrival of our baby this summer. We also value the inclusive atmosphere of the group’s family-friendly gatherings. The lively presence of children playing together adds to a joyful environment and makes us comfortable bringing our future child into this setting. This sense of belonging encourages us to actively participate in the group's activities each week.
