Gospel: Lk. 14 1, 7-14

A question that came to mind about today’s Gospel was how to remain humble.
Here are two reflections that came to me about this.

One way to be humble is to recognize two facts:
Compared to all knowledge, what we know is very small
When I compare myself with others who are “better” in some way than me, I
see that I come up short in many ways.

What are the motives for my generosity?
Grim duty
Gain “points” each time
Feel superior
One cannot help but give

Other thoughts that came to me while preparing this sermon
To be invited higher means more intimacy with the host
Greeks thought of humility as a vice, not a virtue
Luke uses the term “poor” to refer to all who are marginalized.
